You didn’t stop him. He killed her.

Dire warnings from a voice only he can hear makes Sheriff Cooper Delaney doubt his sanity. When a body is found matching one from a recent nightmare, he believes he’s gone off the deep end. The dead do not talk to the living. Or do they? One body becomes two. Are there more?

Heart broken by betrayal, Dr. Samantha Fowler finds herself starting over at thirty-three. When she meets the local sheriff, the attraction is instant and fierce, threatening to crumble the defensive walls around her heart. Once burned, twice shy, she vows to stay far away from him for the duration of her stay at the quaint B & B they share. But when she finds one body, then another, avoiding the handsome Texan is impossible.

He’s not done.

Quarry in site, he watches and waits. “I am the master. I cannot be stopped.”

The clock is ticking…

Whispers on the Wind by Dana Wayne is a true romantic suspense, with a whirlwind romance between the two main characters that is both believable and touching and with a suspenseful plot that will leave you guessing until the very end.

Neither Dr. Samantha Fowler (Sam) nor Sheriff Cooper Delaney (Coop) are ready for romance, but that certainly doesn’t stop the love bug from biting. They really never stood a chance when those sparks started flying from that first look. But their emotions toward each other are often overshadowed by a cold-blooded killer on the loose, who has already murdered two young women and is now targeting Sam as the next victim. It’s a frustrating investigative race for Coop as he struggles to piece together the evidence and lasso the killer before he strikes again.

Both the romance and the mystery are well developed and interesting, but there’s another subplot that comes to light toward the end that I absolutely adore. No, I won’t give any of that away. You will have to read Whispers on the Wind to find out for yourself, but I guarantee you will enjoy it as much as I did. One thing I can say about this story is that I really liked the fascinating inclusion of spiritual entities that lend their presence and occasional voice to both Coop and Sam. This story is not primarily supernatural, but both main characters are more than a little sensitive to hearing those voices and feeling those ghostly sensations. That unique aspect in this romantic suspense adds an interesting layer to the overall story, making it that much more engaging, especially toward the end when the feisty spirit of one of the murdered victims has had enough. This ghostly presence throughout is subtle yet integral in helping Coop solve the case and stop a killer that no one would have ever suspected otherwise.

The plot points flow smoothly throughout, and the many characters are compelling. One such adorable character that will steal your heart is Jack, Sam’s rescue dog. Jack takes his job as Sam’s protector seriously, and his loyalty to both her and eventually Coop is quite enchanting. I love that the author has provided Jack with such a well-developed personality, making him a key character in this intriguing mystery.

Whispers on the Wind will appeal to just about any reader who loves a good mystery and doesn’t mind a bit of romance along the way as well as a couple of deliciously sweet recipes at the end that I am definitely going to try. And the charm and standard gossipy undertow in a small Texas town are a great bonus to this fabulous thriller.
