Tempest Swan is out for revenge. Billionaire Leonard Allred’s software program has put her out of a job. She makes a bet with a friend that she’ll get Leonard to take her on a date so she can get retribution, but a fortuitous accident with an adorable nerd might just derail her vengeance.
Leonard has reasons for hiding his identity from the public. It’s worked well for him so far, until he starts falling for the honest and witty Tempest. But how can he destroy their budding romance by admitting he’s actually the guy she hates?

“He realized right then and there that he’d do anything for her.”

Betting on Love by Mary Beesley is a sure bet for your next book choice if you want a lighthearted romance with a touch of revenge, a smattering of lies and secrets, and a fair amount of humor. Tempest Swan is riding the wave of a good job in Dallas, Texas, but wipes out when a new software designed by rich-guy Leonard Allred makes her skills no longer necessary at her company. But all is fair in love and war, so Tempest’s BFF and roommate, Blair Stickley, challenges her to get Leonard Allred to like her and take her out on a date, setting the scene for Tempest to exact some revenge for getting her fired. The fate of best laid plans notwithstanding, Tempest, who only thinks she knows what Leo looks like, does meet him, but he sports a full beard and introduces himself under a different name. Sparks of interest immediately fly between the two, but Leo quickly finds out he is the reason Tempest lost her job. Their attraction is just too hard to resist, so should he tell her who he really is and risk everything?

“Risk isn’t always the enemy. It can open the door to incredible gains.”

While keeping his identity a secret from Tempest may not be Leo’s wisest decision, it does make for an interesting and completely engaging story. Before Leo can tell Tempest the truth, his secret is outed in the most humorous and cringe-worthy fashion. Betting on Love is definitely not your typical romance, but it is sweetly amorous and pretty low on the steam-o-meter, with the author throwing a huge wrench into the plot mix, stirring up the characters and wreaking plenty of havoc.

No spoilers on this one, but trust me when I say that Betting on Love needs to be added to the top of your pile of unread books that are clamoring for your attention. No problem because this fairly wholesome romance is a quick read, with lively characters and a substantial plotline that will make you happy about all the love in the air but still wondering if Tempest and Leo can navigate the relationship pitfalls and barriers that seem to pop up at every turn.

Family and friends play a large role in Betting on Love, reminding us that most relationships come with the added influences of close friends who only want the best and the ramifications of those ever-changing family dynamics that sometimes interfere with your own life choices. I will always take the bet that love will prevail if it’s meant to be, but in Betting on Love, the romantic outcome for Tempest and Leo just may be too much of a long shot, or it could be the best risk they would ever take. Place your bets!
