When the West was wild, and man’s law favored the few, extraordinary women could be found…in the heart of an outlaw.

Outlaw Clay Colby is tired of living one step in front of the law and wants to see his dream of having a wife, a family, to give his life meaning. So far, he’s been rejected twice, and he won’t try again if this one doesn’t work out. But hope fills him that Tally Shannon will see his heart and help him finish this town where once stood an outlaw hideout. On the day when she’s supposed to arrive, a bitter enemy sets fire to the buildings he’d fought to erect and he’s back with nothing to show for his efforts. There’s no woman in the world who’d stand by him now.

But Talley Shannon is no ordinary woman.

After escaping the living hell of the Creedmore Insane Asylum into which she was thrust to die, Tally only wants someone to protect her and the little girl under her care. She doesn’t mind that Clay’s home is dang near burned to the ground—not when he makes her feel so safe. So cherished. But it’s only a matter of time before the ghosts of her past come calling, intent on stealing her happiness, her very life…and her loving cowboy must defend his new bride—and the family they forged—to his very last breath.

AN IN-DEPTH LOOK AT THE OUTLAW’S MAIL ORDER BRIDE

GUEST POST

BY LINDA BRODAY

I’m so excited to release this book after two years of its sitting inside my head. When I ended my Men of Legend series, I received a lot of mail from readers curious about the fate of the group of women who were hiding out in Deliverance Canyon. This is their story.

No more insane than anyone, they escaped the Creedmore Lunatic Asylum and are in hiding, led and protected by flame-haired Tally Shannon. Yet, having to keep on constant vigil has taken a toll and Tally sees that living in constant fear is little more than existing.

She wants to know what it’s like to sleep a whole night through, how it feels to have strong arms around her. She won’t expect love. The safety and security will be enough.

Luke Legend and his wife, Josie, come to visit and tell her about the underground bride service they’ve started for those like her living in the shadows. They persuade her to correspond with outlaw Clay Colby, and a bond forms. She realizes that only someone else with a price on his head can best know how to keep her safe and offer the security she needs. Few others would brave the outlaw town at Devil’s Crossing, so she agrees to marry him.

Leaving an older woman in charge, Tally and a little blind girl under her care climb into Luke’s wagon and travel to meet Clay.

Devil’s Crossing lies in smoldering ruins after an enemy sets fire to what Clay has managed to build. He’s afraid she’ll take one look and run. But his fears are unfounded, and Tally agrees to stay and help Clay reach his dream of building something lasting—a town where they can finally start to live a life of purpose. In addition, he means to apply for amnesty and not have to constantly listen for the next bullet.

Amid Tally’s fears that the men from Creedmore will find and take her back, she slowly opens her heart. Clay is an honorable, kind man she’d always dreamed of one day finding.

Now if only she can find a way to make her stepmother pay for stripping everything from her and putting her in that asylum to rot.

But dark forces are at work and it’s anyone’s guess who’ll survive.

This kickoff of the Outlaw Mail Order Brides series is about learning to trust and opening your heart. Clay and Tally have secret hopes and dreams and yearn for a better life. I think you’ll love their story.

Book #2 SAVING THE MAIL ORDER BRIDE will release April 30, 2019. Outlaw Jack Bowdre is on his way to jail when a stagecoach wreck launches him along with a woman passenger, on a run for their lives—handcuffed together. I hope you’re not afraid of snakes.

I’m a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of over twenty historical western romance novels and short stories. I reside in the Texas Panhandle on land the American Indian and Comancheros once roamed, and at times if the breeze is just right, I can hear their voices whispering in the wind. Texas’ rich history is one reason I set all my stories here where cowboys are still caretakers of the land. I’m inspired every day by their immense dedication and love for the wide open spaces.

When I’m not writing, I collect old coins and I’ve also been accused (quite unfairly I might add) of making a nuisance of myself at museums, libraries, and historical places. I’m also a movie buff and love sitting in a dark theater, watching the magic unfold on the screen. As long as I’m confessing…chocolate is my best friend. It just soothes my soul.

  1. Hi Ruthie! It’s wonderful to be back and be Reading by Moonlight. Nothing sounds more relaxing and peaceful. I’m really excited about his new book, and the series, about this outlaw town of Hope’s Crossing. It’s a dangerous place but these are some tough people–the men and the women. Clay and Tally are up to the task of making it a safe place to live and they’re mighty determined to succeed. These two became like family to me and they still live in my heart. Probably always will. Thank you for spotlighting the book and letting me tell readers about it. Big hugs.
