It’s never too late to find love on the high seas.
Kate Caldwell is a 72-year-old romance novelist writing under the nom de plume, Desiree Desire. With more than thirty bestsellers to her credit, Kate is considered an authority on romance. Her personal life, however, has been lacking in the love department for a long time, and she has all but given up hope of finding a true, romantic connection. Her latest series, about a rakish eighteenth-century pirate, has been a struggle. Her struggle with her own creative processes boils over on a stormy night, when Captain Edward Peregrine, a pirate of the Caribbean during the year 1721, begins appearing to her as she sleeps. Convinced that Edward is a figment of her imagination, Kate happily accepts his return visits, and the two collaborate on the first two books of the series. Then, Edward suddenly stops appearing, and Kate is frustrated with her publisher’s demands for the next book. In desperation, she decides to take a two-week cruise with her granddaughter, Ellie, hoping the chance to relax and watch the waves breaking in the beautiful waters of the Caribbean will reset her creative process. Little did Kate know that troubled waters lay ahead or that she’s in for the adventure of her life, and possibly, true love at long last.

“Sleep for now, Katie girl. But remember, someday belongs to us.”
Someday Belongs to Us by Margie Seaman is an absolute dream of a story that has so much to offer. This fantastic story is a wonderful reminder that anytime in life is the right time to achieve your goals and maybe even find a bit of romance on the high seas.
Kate Caldwell is in her 70s and a published author but is struggling to even begin writing the next installment in her bestselling eighteenth-century pirate romance series about an incredibly handsome pirate named Edward Peregrine, who happens to have a heart of gold. Another captivating aspect about Edward is that he is also Kate’s muse and visits her in the dead of night to collaborate with her on this romance series. Who better to help write a book about a pirate than the actual pirate himself? Is Edward a figment of Kate’s imagination, an actual time traveling pirate, or something else altogether? An excellent question that just may be answered in due time. What we know for certain is that we all need a muse sometimes to help us with our creative endeavors, and Kate sure has found a keeper!
As Kate prepares for a Caribbean cruise with her adult granddaughter, Ellie, she is looking forward to this much needed vacation to relax, disconnect from her publisher’s demand for the latest manuscript, and hopefully entice Edward to show up at night so that he can help her through this pesky writer’s block. Her publisher and her fans want more spicy romance in this pirate romance series, and so does Edward, but Kate is reluctant to take Edward’s love life in such a provocative, passionate direction. Can she put aside her inhibitions and allow Edward some seductive fun and maybe even find a young lady who will steal his heart, or will she keep him firmly as her muse and swashbuckling bachelor sailing the Caribbean waters forever? While Edward does provide Kate with the inspiration that she needs to write the next book during the cruise, Kate also finds a lot more than she ever bargained for, beyond the extravagant buffets and fun-filled shore excursions.
Someday Belongs to Us is Margie Seaman’s debut novel, but you would never know it because Margie’s writing is seasoned and has all the right elements to keep the reader entertained and even guessing a little at how the story will unfold. The pacing is spot on, and the cast of characters is a good mix of young, old, audacious, and sweet, with a bit of nefarious added in for some extra drama. A bold literary ingredient to add to any work of fiction is the embedded narrative, or story within a story, and Margie has accomplished this with aplomb. Kate’s adventures on the Caribbean cruise and Edward’s pirating adventures on the pages of Kate’s next book may be two separate stories in Someday Belongs to Us, but the narratives abide together admirably, adding yet another incredible layer of romance and intrigue to the overall fiction.
Bonus: When a story conjures up personal memories, then it is an even bigger hit in my book! While reading Someday Belongs to Us, I was transported back to my teen years when I would often read risqué pirate romances. Oh my! Other memories that I relived while reading Margie’s book include a mission trip to Panama with my mom, with an added side trip to the Panama Canal, and a Caribbean cruise and a European river cruise with my husband. This sweet romance brought all those wonderful memories to the surface at a time when I need them the most. For that and for writing such a lovely story, I send out a big thank you to Margie Seaman.
The dance contest on the last night of the cruise and the overall ending to Someday Belongs to Us are nothing short of magical.
“I don’t know what just happened,
but I’m going to chalk it up to an exhilarating night, three glasses of champagne, and a little fatigue setting in.”
