El Paso Sunrise

From a Constitutional Republic to a Marxist Dictatorship led by a Muslim President in a Second American Civil War

“Kill him,” the gravelly voice said on the speaker to the cream of the Russian and Muslim terrorist assassination squad infiltrating America from Canada and on their way to El Paso to kill lawyer Steven Vandorol.  Steven was leading the Texas prosecution of Federal government corruption and with national implications before the fall presidential election.

El Paso Sunrise is the first of two stand-alone novels that together tell a grand story of love, passion, intense hate, violence and horror all brought keenly alive against the intentional radical transformation of America in a Second American Civil War by progressives, Muslim radicals and the American Left from a Constitutional Republic.  It is also a portrayal of a future with the literal choking of Canada, Great Britain, Europe, the Middle East, particularly the sovereign State of Israel by Islamist radicals, ISIL, Hezbollah, Hamas and the spreading cancerous malignancy of a worldwide Muslim Caliphate.

Steven Vandorol had it all but lost everything when he fell hard from grace in the ultra-rich Sunbelt.  Escaping to Washington, D.C., he found himself embroiled in evil, corruption, sexual obsession and addiction but, confronting his own demons, found peace and serenity in El Paso.

Then stunning Vanessa Carson, Steven’s attorney friend and confidant amid the evil of D.C. brings her sunshine smile back into his life in El Paso and together as one, face their worst nightmares or rape, kidnapping and murder during the ultimate crises of a second American civil war started by powerful forces and only Steven and Vanessa stand in their way . . .

While El Paso Sunrise is a graphic story of evil in this world, it is also a timeless love story about goodness, faith, grace and friendship blossoming during a national emergency — a clarion call to the world to remember what truly matters — asking the question . . .

Can Steven force his own country and government to face their own demons before it’s too late?

In El Paso Sunrise and El Paso Sunset by Louis Bodnar, the United States is experiencing immense division in 2015 and 2016, in terms of the political arena, with agencies and communities across the country under pressure to avoid a second civil war. Book two includes a few repeated chapters as a recap from Book one; therefore, both books could potentially stand alone. With that said, these books feel like one long story, so reading both and in order is advisable to appreciate the overall view, characterization, and plot progression.

In El Paso, Texas, Attorney Steven Vandorol is leading the prosecution team against Alberto Alvarado and his son Ricardo, who are under fire for participating in the largest annuity fraud in the history of the great state of Texas. As if that case is not massive enough, Steven is also seeking to indict quite a few high-profile people in Washington, DC for alleged acts of treason. That list includes none other than the President of the United States himself: Barack Obama. As if these two tasks are still not enough, some Muslim, Russian, and Chinese hit men are plotting to eliminate Steven and the prosecution team to stop the Alvarado trial. Steven Vandorol has a lot on his plate.

In El Paso Sunrise, Steven arrived in El Paso five years ago after living the high life and then falling out of favor in Washington, DC. Recovering from addiction, Steven wants nothing more than to start over and cultivate and spread his newly acquired Christian spirituality and views. In Book one, Steven manages to escape several attempts on his life, which he attributes to his faith in God rather than sheer good luck, but things really heat up as El Paso Sunrise heads into El Paso Sunset. Vanessa Carson, a good friend from Steven’s past in DC, joins Steven’s prosecution team. It takes no time at all for the flames to rekindle between these two, and their romance shoots straight up into orbit. Their relationship is quite lovey-dovey, providing some needed relief from the over-the-top sexual innuendos and raunchy behavior exhibited by a few of those bad guys seeking to terminate the prosecution team.

Be forewarned, the carnal overtones and actions and outrageous comments from some of the antagonists could potentially offend the more sensitive reader. In addition, the overall political tone expressed through several characters, including Steven, is extremely conservative and far right. The timing of these books is right before the 2016 US presidential election, and the assassins trying to take Steven and his team down support the takeover of the United States and the establishment of communism. What is more, the views of the main protagonists support the belief that the Obama Administration and Hillary Clinton are behind establishing this communist regime as well. The political views in both El Paso Sunrise and El Paso Sunset might disturb readers who oppose such highly conservative rhetoric, but the basic plot about the ramifications of a divided country remains relevant, interesting, and actually quite terrifying in today’s continuing political and societal landscape. These books show us that the United States must unify rather than divide because a fractured country is vulnerable to terrorists and other groups that want to infiltrate and establish their ideologies.

Many of the characters are developed and memorable, with the main character often breaking into heavily spiritual oration and discourse and with some of the antagonists mired in their own dark humor and blunders.

El Paso Sunrise and El Paso Sunset will appeal to readers who love a good thriller that hits a bit too close to home, in terms of a divided United States, but may offend those who do not agree with the mega-conservative viewpoint. Either way, the El Paso books are worth exploring because their comprehensive plot and controversies could spark some dynamic and hopefully productive debate among all readers.

  1. Wow! It sounds like these books will definitely spark reactions from readers, no matter which side of the political fence they fall on. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the books.

    • It’s good when books spark healthy debate, but in today’s climate, you never know. I like when authors boldly write what they want knowing they will always have a reader base.
