100 Things To Do in Dallas Fort Worth Before You Die is a super handy list of so many interesting events, venues, and eateries that you will want to pack your bags (depending on how far away you are) and immediately head over to DFW for a look see.

When offering a long list of things to do in a specific city or region, keeping the reader engaged throughout is critical, and Tui Snider does just that. Each entry is short and to the point, with just enough information to pique your interest. As a native Texan (about five hours south of DFW), I must admit to something shocking after reading this book. I have only been to one of the 100 places (the zoo). I typically only pass through the Dallas Fort Worth area, either by car or by plane, but after reading this list, I may just have to stay awhile next time.

The book is divided into categories: Food and Drink, Music and Entertainment, Sports and Recreation, Culture and History, and Shopping and Fashion. With such a comprehensive list, everyone will find at least one thing (or maybe 100) that sounds appealing. I have already earmarked several fun things, such as a visit to 1313 Mockingbird Lane to tour a replica of that super cool mansion from The Munsters. How did I not know about this? Other places high on my list include the Old Red Museum, a Space Alien’s Grave in Aurora Cemetery, the Grapevine Vintage Railroad, the Fort Worth Water Gardens, and the Pegasus Theatre to see a live play in black and white like the old movies (I have got to see that!). And don’t get me started on all the amazing places to eat. I want to try them all!

Each entry has some sort of contact information, such as a physical address, email address, or website address, to help you proceed to the next step on your DFW journey. In addition, the author has embedded some extra entries, helpful tips, and trivia along the way. Did you know that the site of the first North American vineyard was in Texas in the 1600s (before Texas was officially Texas, of course)? And I readily admit to pulling out some paper money to check for the tiny FW after reading about the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. This short book really does cover a lot of ground.

Overwhelmed by it all and can’t seem to narrow down your list? Well, the author has done all the hard work for you by providing some Suggested Itineraries at the end of the book, broken down by category and by season.

I didn’t realize that Dallas Fort Worth and the surrounding areas have so much to offer outside of football, Six Flags, the stockyards, and the Ewing family (yes, you can visit Southfork Ranch and see the Ewing mansion from the TV show Dallas). Now I want to see all these wonderful places, do all these exciting activities, and eat all that scrumptious food that the author so succinctly presents in this fabulous book.

    • I know, right! I’ve been missing out on so much! Can DFW handle both of us at the same time? 😀

  1. Thanks so much for reviewing my book. It makes me so happy to hear that it makes you feel inspired to explore the DFW area! 😀

  2. p.s. I live close to the Aurora Alien grave and I make great espresso… So, if you want to meet up and maybe have a coffee before/after, drop me a line. 😀

  4. It sounds like a really fun book and with SO many people moving to my Frisco neighborhood from out of state, it hit me what a GREAT housewarming gift this would make, too!
