In That One Moment, the sparks between Ricki and Kory begin on page one, but falling in love isn’t on anyone’s agenda. Even though they are both guarding their hearts from more heartbreak, they can’t deny the immediate attraction. This relationship starts off rocky and then escalates as everyone and everything are thrown into danger. Once the antagonist shows up, the suspense becomes incredibly high. As villains go, this one is one of the worst. This person will grate on your nerves and make you want to knock some teeth out. I completely hate this antagonist. Well done!
What I like most about That One Moment is the good advice about recognizing when you meet “the one” and then acting on it. Don’t let it slip through your fingers because of past hurts. Ricki and Kory learn this the hard way when they almost miss their chance because of the fear of commitment and because a certain psychopath just won’t take no for an answer.
That One Moment is fast paced and engaging, with the danger intensifying quickly, and the antagonist wreaking havoc all over the place. Both main characters, Kory and Ricki, are interesting, but they are somewhat enigmatic. Kory is a rugged and physically fit survivalist guide, but he becomes almost too smitten with Ricki and a bit pouty when she doesn’t drop everything and run into his arms. Ricki is ex military and now a game warden, so she is quite capable and resourceful, but her character sometimes comes across as a bit scattered and uncertain. Either way, these two are definitely meant to be together, and this relationship is exactly what they both need.
The main characters are surrounded by some well-developed secondary characters. I especially like young Byron as well as Wolf and Martha. Additionally, the mountain setting makes me want to join in on the survival trek – or maybe simply sip some hot chocolate in the cozy lodge. Overall, this story is a gentle reminder to trust your instincts when it comes to relationships (both good and bad) and to seize that one moment and hang on to it.
