Beyond Scandal and Desire goes beyond a simple romance between an unlikely couple. The entire story is full of intrigue, infatuation, seduction, revenge, wonderful characterization, and one amazing twist toward the end. I love it all.
Word of caution: Mick’s seduction of Aslyn gets a bit steamy, but it is oh so romantic and sweet at the same time. Aslyn is a sheltered, innocent young noblewoman, but she craves independence and adventure. Mick is on a quest for revenge and acceptance, but he discovers his true heart’s desire along the way. Sit back and enjoy the convergence, the romance, and the love that will not be denied.
An interesting topic this book touches on is the horrifying reality of baby farming during the late 1800s. Unwanted illegitimate children from illicit affairs were sold off to women who often murdered and buried the innocent babes. Mick Trewlove was a farmed-out baby, but thankfully, the woman kept him and a few other children and raised them as her own. The relationship between these “siblings” and their “mother” is dynamic and heartwarming. The concept of family is big in Beyond Scandal and Desire. A family isn’t always about blood, it’s about love, loyalty, and trust.
I am happy that this book goes beyond gratuitous seduction and sensuality and presents a breathtaking story of true love between husband and wife, mothers and children, brothers and sisters, and a persistent man and an adventurous woman. A delightful love story at its finest.
