In her kitchen at the Red Door Inn, executive chef Caden Holt is calm, collected, and competent. But when her boss asks her to show off their beautiful island to impress a visiting travel writer and save the inn, Caden is forced to face a world much bigger than her kitchen—and a man who makes her wish she was beautiful.

Journalist Adam Jacobs is on a forced sabbatical on Prince Edward Island. He’s also on assignment to uncover a story. Instead he’s falling in love with the island’s red shores and Caden’s sweets.

When Caden discovers Adam isn’t who she thought he was, she realizes that the article he’s writing could do more than ruin the inn’s chances for survival—it might also break her heart.

Readers will discover hope for the hurting, joy for the broken, and romance for the lonely at the enchanting Red Door Inn.

What did you enjoy most about writing Where Two Hearts Meet?

I most enjoyed the way that Adam Jacobs, the hero of Where Two Hearts Meet, revealed himself to me. I thought I knew who he was until I was writing a scene and he woke up from a deep sleep, his arm swinging over the empty nightstand in search of a bottle. Up until that moment I’d had no idea that he was an alcoholic. And then his brokenness made much more sense to me. And he quickly became one of my favorites to write.

What book do you wish you could have written?

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. It’s the most enchanting, endearing book I’ve ever read. It’s the book I wish I’d written and the one I can’t stop reading. I adore it for its brilliant character development and gorgeous prose. I love its story and hope. And I recommend it to all of my friends.

Just as your books inspire authors, what authors have inspired you to write?

The late Gilbert Morris was one of the most influential authors in my life. I began reading his books when I was in junior high. He was a pioneer of Christian fiction, and he wrote stories that I couldn’t get enough of. I’d stay up late into the night reading his books, and my mom would always have to tell me to go to bed. But I just needed one more chapter. His books were the inspiration for my first novel at age 12. It was terrible. But it was inspired by what I’d been reading, and it was an important first step toward publication fifteen years later.

Who would you cast to play your characters in a movie version of your book?

Caden Holt, the chef of the Red Door Inn, who loves to eat her own cinnamon rolls and tastes all the sweets going out of her kitchen, would be played by singer Meghan Trainor. Her gorgeous smile, blond hair, and curves are just what I picture Caden would look like. Adam Jacobs, world-wearied journalist fresh off a disastrous assignment in the Middle East, would be played by actor Jeremy Renner, who expresses pain and compassion at the same time.

What are some day jobs that you have held?  If any of them impacted your writing, share an example.

For the last ten years I’ve been working in marketing and publicity in the publishing industry, and it was fascinating to be on both sides of the line—both an author and working with other authors. My experience in the industry has helped me to better understand how I can work with my publishers. It’s also given me a huge appreciation for how hard publishing teams work. I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to work on both sides of this industry.

What projects are you working on at the present?

I’m currently working on the third book in the Prince Edward Island Dreams series, On Love’s Gentle Shore. It’s a return to the Red Door Inn and the island’s north shore and introduces a few new characters along with some that we’ve grown to love. I’m working on editing it now, and it’ll be out next summer.

If you were an animal in a zoo, what would you be?

Honestly? Probably a sloth. I’m not a fast mover, and if I could sleep fifteen hours a day, I’d be a happy camper. But I’d like to say I’m more like a giraffe. Not overly long in the neck or legs, but just a bit laid back. I’ll probably only run if someone or something is chasing me, and I rather enjoy a relaxed afternoon under a shady tree.
